Do you have any idea that the happiest country in the world is Denmark?
i read it currently in Business Week Indonesia October. According to World Values Survey 2008, the freedom to choose and tolerance, and not only money, influence the level of people’s happines.
here’s the complete list,
1. Denmark
Maybe this country is not really the country when you’re fantasizing. its not Karibia, nor Paris, or Alpen, or Berlin, if i will. but the balance to manage the economy, high education standard, social securities, and people’s tolerance even to the strangers make them marked as the happiest people in the world. bad weather, i guess, is not a constrain.
2. Puerto Rico
Blame me for underestimating please. what did i expect, please? if you ask me, i would mention Netherlands, Switzerland, or maybe Bali, hehehe… But no, its Puerto Rico, people!! even the economy is low, Puerto Ricans seems highly and simply satisfied for their long term summer time, the energetic musics, exotic beaches. oh, and they dont pay for federal tax too.im sure that will make me happy too.
3. Columbia
Do they care that “world” will identify their country mostly with cocain or drugs? nope. they dont. instead, they spread a highly tolerance to various ethnics. they support Arabian, Jewish, French, Portuguese, Germanic, Italian, whoeva.
4.Iceland
Yep, one of my “wanna-go-there” list is actually in the list! so the people of Iceland may not as cold as the name. Located in North Atlantic Ocean between mainland Europe and Greenland, the Icelandic live peacefully through the un-peaceful weather. But again, they enjoy the freeddom and proudly distribute the egallitarian values as their herritage.
5. North Ireland
Only 10 years ago, they had a war due to conflicts, between Catholic and Protestan, known as “The Troubles”. but yet i think, is the economic’s growth makes a major changing in people’s mind?
6. Ireland
Politic’s and economic’s stability, along with free education, and also focused on traditional values is the main cause, i guess.
7. Switzerland
Maybe i will be dissapointed if Swiss is not in the list. Since 1998, Swiss citizens have voted for a President, a woman president exactly. and quote this, the system maybe we could only dream about : “Direct Democracy”, where Swiss citizens have the civil right to submit a direct petition to the government to held a referendum, which may overturn parliamentary decisions. Dream on, Indonesians, dream on!
8. Netherlands
Not hard to guess, huh? even is Netherlands is the most densely populated in Europe, the liberal approach and social tolerance that has been a long tradition for Netherlands makes it easy (at least for me) to pick Netherlands as one of a place i want to spend my life in. heheh. and yes obey the fact; 350 tahun dijajah kompeni itu, (god i still remember), and mark this : tak sampai 20% penduduk negara yang sudah sangat sekuleritu pergi ke gereja. again, dream on! we will never be secular! (at least as long as i alive)
9. Canada
Again, tolerance. Maybe it a must so we can be hapyy too.
10. Austria
Austria have the high standard of life in economy and education. there laid one of the best mountains in the world, and yet they know exactly how to use it as the tourism property. they have, um, like Mozart and all.
and where the hell indonesia? we’re in number 40. in bad or good way. at least, we’re the 40 of 97. but indonesia is the bottom for Southeast Asia. Thailand is in 27, Singapore is in 31, Malaysia is in 34, Vietnam is in 36, and Philippines is in 38. but you guess what? we’re even better than Japan (43). well its Japanese, i guess they’re psycho. no offense.
